Hi Everyone! I’m so excited to share that my poem, “Our Walk To School” was published in a wonderful new children’s anthology called HOP TO IT: POEMS TO GET YOU MOVING (Pomelo Books, Oct. 2020).
This poem was inspired by a tradition that my kids and I implemented on the very first day of the quarantine when we learned that their schools would be closed indefinitely. We decided that we would not allow this “new normal” ruin our “old normal.” So, every day, after breakfast, we laced up our sneakers and headed out on our walk to school (And yes, we literally walked to their school and home again). The boys and I enjoyed it so much that we continued, even through the summer. It was our time to breathe, set our intentions for the day, and remind each other that — while we didn’t know what the future would bring — we could at least count on this time together. True, our walks weren’t always as idyllic as what I depict in the poem, but sharing those morning walks with my two boys will definitely be one of my favorite memories of 2020.
