I am in SHOCK! I just found out that I WON the Society for Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrator’s 2021 Magazine Merit Award in the poetry category for my poem, “Lemons!” which first appeared in Countdown/The School Magazine. What a cool and super unexpected surprise!
What’s so amazing about this is that (some of you may recall) this particular poem was written on April 27, 2020 during a poem-a-day challenge that I participated in during National Poetry Month. You remember April 2020, don’t you? You know, the start of the pandemic when the world shut down and we were all dazed and confused and quarantining and wondering what the heck was happening and how we would ever survive being stuck inside for a WHOLE MONTH!?
Ah, the good old days, right? But here I am now, celebrating receiving this award and it would NEVER have happened if it hadn’t been for the pandemic. Because if we weren’t quarantining, I never would have looked to poetry for comfort and purpose, and if it hadn’t been for that poetry challenge, this poem and this award (and a lot of the success I’ve had these last couple of years) would never have happened.
So, sometimes there really are silver linings, even amidst the dark times. So when someone gives you “lemons,” well… you know what to do. 🙂
Thanks everyone, as always, for your support and kindness. xoxo
YAY! I’ve been waiting forever to share the cover of my upcoming debut picture book BRAINSTORM! with you all and it’s finally here!!! Whoo-Hoo!!! Didn’t illustrator Kate Kronreif do an incredible job? I’m so in awe of her talents! And if you like this, you’re going to LOVE the rest of the book. She’s a genius! (Scroll down for more….)
If you are interested in a little of the “story behind the story” of BRAINSTORM! check out fellow author Vivian Kirkfield’s blog today where she hosted a brief interview with me (psst, you can even win a copy of the book!):
BRAINSTORM! is available for pre-order anywhere books are sold! But you don’t have to buy the book to help spread the word. Simply asking your local library or school library to order the book or putting it on your “To Read” shelf on GoodReads goes a LONG way toward helping to get this book into the hands of kids and teachers! Thank you so much for all your support! xoxo
Hi Everyone! I hope you are all doing well and having a great week!
So, I may have mentioned that I’m part of a phenomenal group of authors and author/illustrators who have picture books debuting this year. And today, our group, KidLit Caravan (www.KidLitCaravan.com), is featured on Tara Lazar’s blog, where we each talk a little about how we came up with the ideas for our books.
Also, the last couple months have been SUPER busy in my world and I have LOTS of new book and poetry news coming soon! (Unfortunately that’s all I’m allowed to say right now, but I hope to share more with you very soon!)
And a quick shameless plug: BRAINSTORM! is now available for pre-order wherever books are sold, so if you think you may want to own a copy, please consider pre-ordering! (FYI, Preorders alert the publisher that there is interest in a book, which often means they’ll put more marketing behind the book when it launches in July. Early sales can REALLY help the longterm success for a book!)
OR another way to REALLY help is to request that your local library or school library order the book! It’s SUPER EASY to do. Just ask your librarian! Sometimes there’s even a place to do it right on their website. If you need it, the ISBN# for Brainstorm! is: 1534111484 or 978-1534111486
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Stay well and healthy!
P.s. here’s the link to the book on Amazon– just in case! 🙂
FRIENDS! I just found out that my debut picture book BRAINSTORM! is now available for pre-order! It doesn’t publish until July 15th but you can order it NOW from anywhere books are sold! YAY!
FYI if you are interested, B&N is having a PREORDER SALE that ends TODAY for 25% off! Use code: “Preorder25” here:
For those not in the publishing world, pre-orders are SUPER important for a books’ ultimate success. ALSO, if you aren’t interested in owning the book, another great way to help is to request that your local library order the book for their collection. (In fact, if you want your library to carry ANY particular book, all you have to do it ASK! It’s super easy and often you can do it online!).
(I’m sorry I don’t yet have a cover to show you — My publisher won’t allow me to reveal it until early April — but I promise it’s BEAUTIFUL!)
I can’t wait to share my first book with all of you (and several more coming soon! Announcements on their way!).
Thank you always for your support! xoxo
P.S. Here are a couple more places you can get the book….
